#MattToAus

One day Matt Hodkinson left the city of Manchester, UK to see what this life outdoors was about. Over a year on he's lving in Sydney. These are his momentary broadcasts from the land of Oz.

It’s 27 degrees here in Sydney today and with the rise in temperature increases the magnetism of that beach called Bondi. If you’re a fan of the famous beach, it’s vibes and it’s surf then there’s a great serial Bondi photographer that shares your passion under the guise of Aquabumps. Check out this and many other Bondi snaps on his Facebook page.

Subsonic

I’m really looking forward to the Subsonic music festival in December. It will be my first camping festival in Australia and it’s set in stunning surroundings. Subsonic has hosted some big european electronic acts in it’s short life and this year will be the same with Apparat already in the line up.

I do enjoy living in Enmore, Sydney. For me the place is inspiring and as creative a hub as I have lived in since Manchester and there’s always the feeling that something is happening. Something unusual and bizarre and eclectic. Among typefaces, artwork filled walls and buildings, there’s always something to distract from whatever it is you may be doing.

So it’s been a while…

…AND i return to my somewhat desolate blog bearing the smarmy but totally viable excuse that I’m simply having too much fun in the land of Oz to spend my time indoors, on my laptop. Sorry but this may appear a self indulgent read, I’ll do my utmost to keep it under wraps.

Issac Newton’s gravity discoveries undoubtedly came at a cost.

I find myself apple picking in the middle of nowhere, but in Australia, in the South of Queensland, the place might be called Stanthorpe but rest assured it feels like middle-earth and I’ve lost count of the amount of apples I’ve copped on the head. Working with backpackers and seasoned pickers alike, I count down the days until my community service/ visa sentence is complete and I can return to my faithful Sydney for a party on a astronomical scale. But for the mean time my fun resides in this country town, through stories of Aussie culture and lifestyles that are incomprehensible to me, all shared with a number of servants to the immigration department A.K.A travellers. Great people under unfortunate circumstance.

From the depths of the memory banks…

Nostalgia tripping on good times had, that i should of blogged. Sydney holds many memories and rewards for times of limited funds and basic living. Here I found security in a Job that I was very fortunate to land and I reunited with good friends from years of great times in the rainy city of Manchester. A poor relationship with Sydney CBD and the business suits that populate the corporate streets soon faded as I discovered the beautiful coastlines, quirky suburbs and good bars. It’s still no Melbourne might I add. Highlights include hitting the surf, chartered fishing trips, numerous backpackers parties and getting to know a good Sydney crowd. Being out in the sticks brings realisation of good times had like an apple in the face. And so as much as I’m enjoying Stanhorpian life, bring on the big smoke (Yes Sydney is called this too.)

Faced with reality of doing community service/fruit picking to stay in the country. This time I’m not so enthused #MattToAus
